Social Saver Privacy Policy
Effective Date: October 26, 2023
This Privacy Policy explains how Vishal Kaleria ("I", "me", "my") handles information for the Social Saver desktop application ("App") and the Social Saver website (https://socialsaver.site) ("Website").
Your privacy is important. Social Saver is designed with privacy in mind.
1. Information the App Does NOT Collect
The Social Saver desktop app runs only on your computer. It DOES NOT collect, store, or send any personal information like:
- Your name, email, or contact details.
- The website links (URLs) you paste into the app.
- Which videos, songs, or playlists you download.
- Your web browsing history.
- Information about files on your computer (except where you save downloads).
- Usage data about how you use the app's features.
Your download activity stays local and private on your machine.
2. Information Stored Locally (On Your Computer Only)
The App saves some data *only on your computer* to work properly:
- Settings: Your choices (like download folders, filename patterns) are saved in a settings file in the App's data folder.
- Download History: If you keep this setting ON, a list of past downloads (URL, title, status, where it was saved) is stored locally. You can turn this off or clear the history in the app.
- Downloaded Files: The actual media files are saved in the folders you choose in Settings.
This information is **never** sent to me or anyone else.
3. Update Checks (App)
- Download Engine (`yt-dlp`) Updates: If you turn on "Automatically Check for Updates" in Settings, the App will occasionally connect to the internet (GitHub.com or api.socialsaver.site) to see if a newer version of the internal `yt-dlp` tool is available. This check is anonymous and might send basic info like the current `yt-dlp` version or OS type, but **not** your personal info or download history.
- App Updates: The App itself doesn't auto-update currently. You need to visit the Website to get new versions. Future versions might add an update check that connects to https://socialsaver.site or GitHub, sending only basic info like the current App version.
4. Website Information (`socialsaver.site`)
When you visit https://socialsaver.site, like most websites, some basic, anonymous info might be collected by the web server or privacy-focused analytics (like Vercel Analytics):
- Server Logs: May include your anonymized IP address, browser type, OS, referring page, and visit time. This helps run and secure the website.
- Analytics: We use privacy-respecting analytics to see how visitors use the site (e.g., popular pages) to make it better. This data doesn't identify you personally.
- Cookies: The Website uses only essential cookies needed for it to work (from Vercel/Next.js). We **do not** use advertising or tracking cookies.
5. How Information is Used
- App: Since no personal info is collected, none is used. Local data is only for the app to work on your computer. Update checks only find new versions.
- Website: Basic logs and analytics are used only to operate and improve the website.
6. Sharing Information
We **do not sell, rent, or share any personal information**. The App doesn't collect it, and the Website only collects basic operational data.
(Website logs might be shared only if legally required by law enforcement.)
7. Data Storage and Security
- App Data: Stored locally on your computer. You are responsible for securing your computer.
- Website Data: Managed by our host (Vercel) according to their security practices.
8. Children's Privacy
Social Saver is not for children under 13. We do not knowingly collect their information.
9. Changes to This Policy
This policy might be updated occasionally. If major changes happen, the new policy will be posted here on the website (https://socialsaver.site/privacy). Using the App or Website after changes means you accept the new policy.
10. Contact
If you have questions about this Privacy Policy, the best way is to:
- Open an issue on the Social Saver GitHub Repository.
