Keeping Social Saver Updated

To keep downloads working smoothly, it's important to update Social Saver. There are two parts that might need updating:

  1. The Download Engine (`yt-dlp`): This is the tool inside Social Saver that connects to websites. Updating YT-DLP binaries is most important for fixing download problems.
  2. The Social Saver App: The main application window and its features.

Updating the Download Engine (`yt-dlp`)

Websites change often, so the download engine needs regular updates.

How to Check and Update Manually

  1. Open Social Saver.
  2. Click "Settings" (⚙️ icon) in the sidebar.
  3. Go to the "Binaries" tab.

  • You'll see your "Installed Version".
  • Click **"Check for Updates"**.
  • If a newer "Latest Stable" version is shown, click the "Update to Stable" button. (Stable is usually best. Nightly is for testing newest fixes.)
  • Wait for it to finish. Your "Installed Version" will update.

Automatic Engine Updates (Recommended)

Let Social Saver handle engine updates for you:

  1. Go to Settings → Application.
  2. Find the "Updates (yt-dlp Engine)" section.
  3. Make sure "Automatically Check for Updates" is ON.
  4. Set "Check Frequency" to "Daily".
  5. (Optional) Turn ON "Automatically Install Updates" if you don't want to be asked before it updates the engine.

Updating the Social Saver Application

To get new features or fixes for the main Social Saver app itself (not just the engine), you usually need to download and install the new version manually:

  1. Go to the official download page: socialsaver.site/download
  2. Download the latest installer/package for your computer.
  3. Run the installer (Windows/macOS) or replace the old file (Linux), just like when you first installed it.

(The app might show a notification when a new version is available in the future.)
